Meet the Artist
Creative Vision
Eryi Wang is a Chinese artist based in Beijing. She lived in New Zealand for nearly a decade and later completed her MFA at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, where she pursued an interdisciplinary practice. Her work moves between painting, drawing, moving image, and installation, shaped by a cross-cultural experience that informs her sense of displacement, attention, and material translation, without making identity the central subject.
Working with Chinese pigments, acrylic, pastel, and digital media, Wang is drawn to ordinary manufactured objects whose meanings remain unresolved. Rather than assigning them fixed symbolic roles, she rearranges them into fragmented and often unexpected relationships, allowing forms to drift between recognition and ambiguity. Dark humor and satire frequently enter these arrangements, giving familiar objects an emotional and psychological charge that can move between absurdity and the broader conditions of contemporary life.
